Sound Learning is designed to provide an introduction for those students interested in exploring boarding life at The Stony Brook School. The program features a highly supportive atmosphere where experienced Middle School teachers share their enthusiasm for life and love of learning. From July 15-28, a select group of Middle School students will immerse themselves in a fun and challenging residential academic program designed to foster future success in college and in life. Each day will start with a core course focused on developing writing skills. The courses will combine expository with creative writing, and will train students in the type of writing needed for success in high school and beyond, as well as for the new SAT. Each day the students will receive feedback from experienced writing instructors, while utilizing our modern computer lab for a writing workshop. Following the writing course, students will experience learning in a hands-on fashion. Students will be able to choose an elective course from a list of exciting options. The elective options are Marine Science, Robotics, Theater Arts, and Visual Arts. Each weekday evening, Sound Learning students participate in a sailing program that focuses on team-building. Students learn together as they cruise and race on our fleet of sailboats that range from 14 to 30 feet. The program also features a full day in New York City complete with Broadway Show tickets and a visit to a museum, as well as a weekly ocean trip.  $3,150
